Sutton aims to enable Interpublic’s PR firms, WS and Golin Harris, branding consultancy FutureBrand and events firm Jack Morton to ‘become smarter’ at working together, he said.
Sutton said his new role, as European chairman of IPG’s ‘constituency management group’, would involve ‘90 per cent defining opportunities and ten per cent troubleshooting’.
Sutton, who left BSMG after its merger with WS three years ago, has since been running investment vehicle Orpheus Group.
Sutton said he had agreed with IPG to ‘remove any active role’ in Orpheus but that he would continue to have a ‘passive advisory role’. He insisted both parties saw his Orpheus link as ‘potentially helpful in the long run’.
When he launched Orpheus in November 2002 Sutton said he aimed to create a ‘top-five European agency network within two years’. He conceded that it has yet to ‘make an investment’ and ‘had not made as much progress as it could have done’.
