DIARY: TV exposure is no guarantee of biz

Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones, the smooth-talking chief of marcoms agency Commsplus, says budding entrepreneurs have 'inundated' him with ideas, following his appearances on BBC1's recent Innovation Nation show, on which he advised a couple on how best to market their own innovation (a nibless pen).

The BBC broadcast numerous shots that included clearly visible Commsplus branding, but Emmanuel-Jones says the agency has yet to receive one newbusiness enquiry as a direct result.

Nevertheless, Emmanuel-Jones says he now has a folder stuffed with intriguing potential inventions.

But he has already rebuffed one idea from a 'Chinese lady who had a device to clean contact lenses' on grounds of 'commercial impracticality'.

'Innovators can be a bit odd,' he adds, leafing through other such suggestions with an occasional sigh.
