May, who takes up the London-based role next month, will replace Diane Donlan, who has quit the agency after only two years to take up a teaching role at Harvard University in her native US. She was unavailable for comment.
May said it was not clear yet whether H&K would recruit a new UK healthcare practice chair, but added that UK healthcare practice head Mike Kan would ‘take responsibility’ for the UK team.
May will report to H&K EMEA practices head Andy Laurence and worldwide health and pharma practice director Paul McDade.
When May joined H&K almost a year ago, he said he aimed to double the size of the agency’s 25-strong UK health team within two years (PRWeek, 17 January).
May said the team would be 30-strong by mid-January and further growth was anticipated. He said the agency had won new business from existing clients such as Roche UK, as well as ‘six or seven’ new accounts he could not reveal.
Donlan joined H&K from Ruder Finn (PRWeek, 18 January 2002).
