R&SA moves to rebuild torn image

Insurance company Royal & Sun Alliance (R&SA) is boosting its communications with the appointment of external and internal comms heads as it bids to rebuild its reputation.

R&SA director of corporate communications Richard Emmott said Trinity Management Communications adviser Justine Guest would be taking up the post of head of internal communications in January, while College Hill

Associates account director Phil Wilson-Brown will also join in the new year, as head of external relations.

Emmott, who joined R&SA from Jarvis in June (PRWeek, 27 June), said he had created the internal role to rebuild relations with staff by putting greater emphasis on ‘engagement’, while the external comms position was a step towards rebuilding the company’s reputation.

He added that the company would also look at creating a public affairs division in the new year.

‘By and large we have had the press coverage we deserved,’ said Emmott. ‘This coverage has been drawn from our performance, which has not been stellar.’

Last year, R&SA was fined £1.35m by the Financial Services Authority for failing to compensate customers who were mis-sold pensions.
