Vacant Carers UK comms position remains unfilled

The media and communications manager post at Carers UK has been mothballed as the charity fights what is understood to be a financial crisis.

Rory Hegerty, in the post for three years, left in September and has resurfaced as comms chief at Hounslow Primary Care Trust. Carers UK campaigns are now being run, on a project-by-project basis, by Third Sector PR, which has a long-standing relationship with the charity.

The agency was hired without a pitch to oversee the charity’s flagship event, National Carers Day, held last Friday.

‘The project-by-project strategy will remain in place in the short term,’ said Carers UK public affairs manager Emily Holzhausen.

At the time of going to press, callers to the charity were told via a recorded message that it was unable to provide a full reception service, and were advised to contact departments direct.

But chief executive Imelda Redmond denied the charity was facing a funding crisis.
