MEDIA: ElleGirl poaches Sugar editor prior to going monthly

ElleGirl, Hachette Filipacchi's teenage spin-off from Elle magazine, has appointed Claire Irvin from stablemate Sugar, as it prepares to go monthly from next February.

ElleGirl, which is currently bi-monthly, was taken over by Hachette Filipacchi 18 months ago.

At Sugar, Irvin is being replaced by Nick Chalmers, former editor of Hachette's TVHits!, who will be acting editor. He has freelanced for the last year for Sugar, Inside Soap and Mizz.

Lysanne Currie, the publisher's editorial director of teen titles, said ElleGirl is aimed at 16- to 18-year-old girls who have grown out of Sugar.

She told PRWeek: 'We can do a lot with PROs. The main thing is that our readers have more cash than other teen-agers. They like to go shopping for cool clothes or quirky bits and bobs.'
