AOL closes in on replacement for top German role

HAMBURG: AOL is on the brink of filling their top German communications post.

Internet service provider AOL is on the verge of filling its top communications job in Germany.

The shake-up follows the appointment of AOL Deutschland comms director Marc-Sven Kopka to AOL’s London-based top pan-European PR role.

Kopka, who was formerly media relations director at AOL Deutschland until his role was expanded in February, will replace David Packman, who is leaving early next year to return to his native Australia.

Kopka will take the title of AOL Europe vice-president communications. He will report directly to AOL Europe president and chief operating officer Philip Rowley and will be responsible for co-ordinating PR strategy between Germany, France and the UK.

Packman joined AOL in 1998 to head its PR in Australia, before moving to Hong Kong as head of comms for Asia in 2000. He joined AOL Europe in May.
