Day will lead a team of 16, working from two offices in New Jersey and Los Angeles.
His appointment comes ahead of the 2005 US launch of the smart car.

His UK replacement will oversee 22 staff and be responsible for all press and PR, internal and external communications and events across DaimlerChrysler product lines.
Day’s departure has sparked a series of changes in the UK comms team line-up .
Rob Halloway has been promoted to press and PR manager for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, with Nick O’Donnell appointed to press and PR manager, Chrysler & Jeep. Debbie Hull has been promoted to become press and PR manager for smart.
