DIARY: Citigate tries to make Birmingham inter... zzzz

Citigate Communications is on a mission to be interesting. The agency's 30-odd Birmingham staff are so incensed by the grey image of their city and their firm's reputation as just a financial PR shop that they have muscled in on the Birmingham Book Festival.

The firm's 'Brainwaves' event invited people at this week's festival to vote on their favourite Birmingham innovation. Citigate has drawn up a number of suggestions, including the Balti curry dish, lawn tennis and, er, interestingly enough, pneumatic tyres.

'We want to come across as an agency that understands our city and does more than just financial PR,' says Citigate account director Hilary Field.

'We are encouraging people to tell us if they think our suggestions are bollocks.'

With that in mind, the people of Birmingham have insisted Citigate drops pneumatic tyres for the Longbridge-manufactured Mini. Brummies evidently realise that you don't need practicality when you have style.
