MEDIA: Smith quits Daily Express to launch a stablemate title

Martin Smith has stepped down as editor of the Daily Express's weekly magazine, Saturday, to be launch editor of a new title from Richard Desmond's Express Newspapers.

He has been replaced by Graham Bailey, who was deputy editor of Saturday.

Bailey indicated that he had no imminent plans for an editorial revamp of the magazine, which carries a mixture of entertainment and lifestyle features, plus TV listings. 'There will be no changes at present,' he said.

Olivia Buxton has been promoted from deputy features to features editor of Saturday, while Roger Fulton has taken over Bailey's role as deputy editor of the magazine. He was formerly associate editor.

Smith's team on the launch, which does not yet have a name and was described by Bailey as 'lifestyle in the broadest sense', includes Karen Hyland, who joins next week from Teletext.
