EVENT: The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has appointed Communiqué PR to promote next year’s The Sunday Times Motor Show Live. Communiqué’s London office will handle the work in advance of and during the show, which was formerly known as the British International Motor Show. It will be held at Birmingham’s NEC from 27 May to 6 June.

CSR: Sportswear giant Nike is to step up its UK corporate social responsibility work, having appointed Emma Stanford as corporate responsibility manager for the UK and Ireland. Stanford, who joined last month, was formerly head of community affairs at Leeds United Football Club, which she left in July.

CHARITY: Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in Britain, has hired Cairns & Associates to promote its first recruitment week, from 10 to 16 November. Although the campaign will be promoted nationwide, local activity will focus on three ‘pilot regions’: Wiltshire, north Hertfordshire and Edinburgh.

TECH: Lighthouse PR is to launch a campaign to promote EDS PLM Solutions, the division of IT services giant EDS that produces ‘product lifestyle management’ software. The agency will target the business, tech and IT press, reporting to EDS PLM Solutions UK marketing manager Netta Sjodin.

FMCG AWARDS: PiranhaKid scooped three awards at this week’s Grocery Advertising and Marketing Industry Awards. The agency landed the PR Agency of the Year award, in addition to two awards for its ‘You’ve Changed’ campaign to launch the Heineken 5 per cent brand.

SPORT: RDA Communications has launched a PR campaign to promote a football friendly between world champions Brazil and Jamaica, to be staged in Leicester on 12 October. RDA managing director Richard Dennis said the organisers were aiming for an attendance of more than 25,000.

PUBLIC SECTOR: Absolute PR & Marketing has been hired to promote social housing services firm Connaught CPS. The Exeter-based agency, which has worked for Connaught’s Workspace division since March, will target the social housing sector press and the regional media.

PRWEEK APPOINTMENT: Ravi Chandiramani joins PRWeek as news editor this week. He was formerly new media editor at sister title Marketing.
