Red Cross in need of a comms head amid PR changes

The British Red Cross is on the hunt for a new director of communications, following the departure of William Beaver after just one year in the post.

Beaver has left the British Red Cross to continue his work as senior marketing consultant sitting on the steering group for the joint Red Cross and EU Road Safety Campaign.

Beaver said that, having set up a new communications strategy for the British Red Cross, he felt it was time to move on and let other people have ‘their time in the sun’.

Beaver joined the Red Cross last year from the Church of England, where he was head of PR (PRWeek, 22 February 2002).

Other changes at the British Red Cross include the appointment of David Piner to the newly created post of celebrity co-ordinator. Refugee Action comms manager Leigh Davies is to join next month as head of media and PR, a post left vacant by Catherine Mahoney’s departure for the East African Flying Doctors (PRWeek, 16 July).
