Salford hopes to boost image with new city branding

Salford City Council has this week unveiled a new brand image for the city, designed to rid the area of its image of poverty and social deprivation.

The branding was developed by Manchester design agency Hemisphere for £25,000. The agency had been briefed to promote the city’s culture, in particular The Lowry waterfront development, as well as its proximity to Manchester.

The newly created magenta design will now be adopted on all council branding, including signs. The agency has also created the slogan IN Salford, which will be used by the council, as well as other city bodies, such as Greater Manchester Police.

The council’s head of comms and PR Ian Andrew said: ‘The change in visual identity is the foundation stone on which the city will rebuild itself.’
