PR students work on real accounts as part of degree

An agency run by PR students now has 20 fee-paying clients, it emerged this week.

The agency, called UK Progress, is run by final year PR students at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston.

The graduate consultants work under guidance from lecturers and their performance is assessed and marked as part of their degree.

Clients that have so far entrusted some of their PR work to the student group include BAE Systems and Manchester law firm Cobbetts.

‘With a real agency we are effectively preparing second jobbers for the market place,’ said senior lecturer in Applied Communication and UK Progress director Paul Elmer.

Briefs vary from media relations to consultancy and B2B PR. Charities and SMEs are target areas for next term.

A fixed fee of £2000 covers costs for the students.
