Glasgow council PRO said to have political agenda

Glasgow City Council’s newly appointed media manager Jim Clark this week hit back at local opposition suggestions that his appointment was politically motivated.

Clark, who is personal assistant to Glasgow City Council leader Charlie Gordon, will take up the newly created post of media manager this month.

However, his appointment has caused concern among some opposition members because part of his current role has been to act as spokesman for Gordon, who leads the Labour-controlled council.

Clark said: ‘I don’t see how it can be said I had a political agenda in any of my work.’

But Scottish National Party group leader John Mason said: ‘I do have reservations.’

It was suggested in the media that the creation of Clark’s role had, in part, led to a decision by council head of marketing and PR John Brown to take early retirement next year. This is something that Brown has denied (PRWeek, 8 August).
