Electrolux ditches top PR post as Wells leaves firm

Household electrical appliances company Electrolux has axed its role of vice-president of PR as the postholder Tom Wells departs.

Wells is leaving the firm’s most senior PR post to set up his own consultancy, called Gyroscope, but will continue to work for Electrolux in a freelance capacity.

His role has now been split with Ulrich Gartner, V-P of Electrolux’s Home Products Europe division overseeing PR for white goods across the continent, including the UK.

Non-Europe white goods promotion will be handled by the division’s V-P of communications Andres Edholm.

Also V-P of media relations Jacob Broberg will oversee corporate communications for Electrolux as a whole.

Wells joined the vacuum cleaner maker as head of corporate communications for Western Europe in 1999, after five years with Consolidated Communications.

During his tenure as vice president of global PR Electrolux developed and is now trying to patent a PR training device that the company claimed could give staff basic PR training in just one hour.

Wells’s says that his consultancy will specialise in advising companies on, among other things, the procurement of PR services.

Prior to his departure Electrolux has already created a strategic PR HQ in Brussels as part of a comms review led by the Gartner.

‘This is simply a further integration of our PR activities as part of a plan that has been in place for half a year,’ said Gartner.
