PUBLIC SECT0R: Save the Children creates a PA dept to boost its clout

Save the Children has created its first dedicated public affairs department following a merger of its campaign and lobbying teams.

A Save the Children spokeswoman said campaigns and lobbying teams were brought together to better handle campaigning 'at a high political level', in both Westminster and the institutions of the European Union.

The charity has now launched a search for its first head of public affairs to head the newly created department, which includes six PA and campaign staff.

Save the Children's UK work over the year will concentrate on an ongoing campaign, which started last April, to beat poverty in the UK.

Campaigning over the year will also cover the recently launched appeal to raise money for basic healthcare, food and shelter for children in Iraq. This week the charity launched its annual fundraiser, Save the Children Week, which runs until 3 May.
