Tobacco firm tops IR Society Awards list of nominations

British American Tobacco heads the nominations for the Investor Relations Society's annual IR Best Practice Awards.

The tobacco giant has received five nominations in the awards, which seek to encourage better use of internet technology in the communication of corporate information to shareholders.

BAT is included on the shortlist for the Grand Prix best site in the FTSE 100 category, as well as for the award for best website as nominated by private investors and analysts, the most improved site and best European site categories.

Other notable contenders are Adidas-Salomon and Geest plc, with four nominations apiece. The IR Society said it received in excess of 500 nominations for the eight awards.

The results will be announced at the IR Society Awards dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on 10 April, coinciding with the Society's annual conference.
