DIARY: PR and lobbying industry figures will say a fond farewell to Roy Jenkins

Liberal Democrat and former SDP figures from the PR and lobbying industries will be out in force to honour the late Lord Roy Jenkins at his memorial service next week.

Among those set to attend are Weber Shandwick's Lord Tom McNally, the leader of the Lib Dems in the House of Lords, and DLA Upstream's Lord Tim Clement-Jones, who played a key role in the party's 2001 general election campaign.

Hutchison 3G public affairs head James Gurling, a long-time aide and friend of party leader Charles Kennedy, will also be there, as will former SDP supporter-turned-Labour councillor Mark Glover of PA shop Chelgate.

Even Lib Dems with no direct connection to the former chancellor paid their respects this week - Luther Pendragon partner Ben Rich, the party's former deputy policy director, confirms he has now read Jenkins's 1000-page biog of Winston Churchill as a mark of a respect.

The service takes place at Westminster Abbey on 27 March at 12 noon.
