PUBLIC SECTOR: NPSA hires Grey to develop approach to media relations

The National Patient Safety Agency - set up two years ago to reduce NHS blunders - has recruited former Cancer Research UK corporate and external affairs director Jenny Grey to lead its PR.

Grey joins as the agency's director of comms to lead a fresh wave of campaigning. This includes targeting patients and medical staff in a bid to encourage reporting of incidents and what Grey calls 'near misses'.

Grey's first task is to develop the agency's first media relations function.

In the interim, she has hired Citigate Communications to handle this brief. Previous comms activity focused on publications, web design and strategy.

Grey is the first permanent comms director at the NPSA since the departure of Steve Wedgewood last year.

She was previously communications director at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, now Cancer Reserch UK.
