DIARY: Red faces as Mission's launch party runs out of champagne glasses

Mission - the agency set up by former Freud Communications account director Nicola Quayle (PRWeek, 1 November) - committed a PR blunder by running out of champagne glasses at its official launch last week.

At the party, held in the penthouse suite of London's posh Sanderson Hotel, revellers who were late to the bar were forced to sup their bubbly from half-pint glasses.

'It's not what you'd expect at a PR party, is it?' mumbled one hung-over hack. 'It felt ridiculous having to drink champagne from a half-pint glass. I left early for the BBC3 do.'

Quayle, pictured with Paul Mason, MD of Mission's parent firm NMI, hastens to point out that celebrity revellers at the do included Kylie Minogue's former boyfriend James Gooding.

More than double the expected 60 guests attended and they got through 80 magnums of fizz between them, reports Quayle, adding: 'It's not as if we actually ran out of drink, like most PR parties.'

Diary notes that 80 magnums between 120 people works out at one litre of champagne per person. No wonder champagne flutes weren't capacious enough.
