DIARY: Morgan joins Wales show to discover bright, young politician hopefuls

Former Al Gore PR adviser Steve Morgan - now MD at Welsh public affairs firm Morgan Allen Moore - has found a novel way to re-engage young people in politics.

Morgan is spending his spare time as one of four 'judges' for ITV1 Wales series First Past the Post, which is aiming to discover talented politicians (aged 18 and above) as Pop Idol uncovered Will and Gareth.

The seven-week series, hosted by Gabby Logan, launches on 17 February, and will see thousands of wannabes whittled down to 50, at which point they will have to undergo a 'hustings' in front of the other 49 candidates.

The show will see a US-style head-to-head face-off between the two finalists (hopefully both candidates will give better accounts of themselves than Gore did in his rather disappointing performance against George W Bush in 2000).

Enquiries as to whether Morgan may get landed with a nickname along the lines of Popstars boss 'Nasty' Nigel, Morgan is frank: 'Yes, "Son of a Bitch Steve" would perhaps be most appropriate'.
