Smith out as pub retailer brings its trade PR in-house

Pub retailer Eldridge Pope (EP) has taken its regional and trade PR work in-house following last year's tough trading conditions.

Former externally retained trade and local media manager Clive Smith has lost the account after four years.

EP, headquartered in Dorset, said it has boosted its marketing team and no longer needed a dedicated PR person on board, although Smith is understood to be on call for ad hoc work.

CEO Mike Johnson said: 'Clive has done an excellent job, but I'm strengthening our in-house marketing team in a number of areas and the additional resource will be able to handle day-to-day PR activity internally.'

Retained City PR agency The Communications Group will also assist with trade and local media enquiries.

EP posted disappointing financial results last month for the year ended 30 September, with like-for-like sales down four per cent.
