NP wins consumer/trade remit for Richmond Foods

Ice-cream maker Richmond Foods - which bought Nestle's entire ice-cream brand portfolio in 2001 - has handed a nationwide consumer and trade PR remit to NP.

NP won a competitive pitch to secure the £100,000 contract and is now preparing a PR campaign to launch in the spring and run through the crucial summer months.

The Impact Agency handled PR for the Nestle brands both before the Richmond acquisition and for the subsequent year and was one of at least four agencies that lost out to NP in the repitch.

Richmond Foods acquired the UK ice-cream business of Nestle in October 2001, adding brands such as Fab and Rowntree's Fruit Pastill to its portfolio.

NP will promote ice-cream products such as Rolo, Smarties, plus the Ribena and Mivvi lollies, in addition to Richmond Foods' new Nestle 'ice-creamery' system.

The agency will also promote new ice-cream products for 2003, such as Milky Bar and Nestle Double Cream.

NP managing director Nick Brown leads a ten-strong team on the account, reporting to Richmond Foods marketing director Kate Needham.

North Yorkshire-based Richmond Foods was set up in 1985 and is now the largest supplier of own-label ice-cream to UK supermarkets.

Meanwhile, NP last month won a newly created PR contract for nationwide bakery chain Greggs.

The work, which is understood to carry a similar level of fees to the Richmond Foods account, sees NP handling consumer and trade PR on a nationwide basis.

Greggs continues to retain Hudson Sandler on financial work, Nottingham-based PR Principles for environmental and crisis handling. It also uses Clareville Communications and Leader Communications for regional promotions.

The NP account team reports to Greggs brand comms manager Judith Olsen on the remit.
