Boots to shake up media relations

Boots is to review its entire in-house media relations and financial communications structure following an audit that assessed best practice across the 43-strong corporate affairs department.

Boots group director of corporate affairs Alastair Eperon said: 'We're now looking at how we organise our corporate and financial media relations areas.'

While he stressed that the review is not likely to lead to an external adviser pitch, he added: 'We're not ruling out the possibility of some changes in the way we work with external consultancies.'

Results of the review are expected within the next three months.

The move follows last month's departure of Boots group head of external affairs Martin Wakeling, who took early retirement after ten years in the role.

Eperon stressed that Wakeling's departure at the end of last month was not related to the review.

Wakeling, who was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press, will not be directly replaced.

Industry sources suggest the group is considering the creation of a new director of media relations role, although Eperon remained tight-lipped over the options being mooted.
