Airport scraps its restructure plans after review of PR

Manchester Airport has abandoned plans to directly replace former press and PR chief Sally Sykes following the results of a strategic PR review.

The airport has created an enlarged head of comms role, scrapping earlier recruitment plans first announced in April.

Airport bosses say the rethink stems from a wider business restructure, which started 18 months ago.

'The company is restructuring a number of areas and we are taking account of the fact that the airline market is more competitive than before, and the need for a focused and powerful comms function is greater than it's ever been,' said airport divisional managing director John Spooner.

The airport is also believed to be recruiting three PROs to boost the in-house team to 11.
