DIARY: Strong showing from retailers in PR Wars table

September was a good month for the supermarket sector, according to the latest PR Wars figures.

The results, compiled by monitoring firm Press Watch, show retail giants Tesco and Morrisons performing well, thanks to rising sales and profits for both.

Tesco leapt from fifth to third place last month, with Morrisons entering the top ten for the first time in ninth. Meanwhile Marks & Spencer continues its unassailable lead.

PressWatch spokesman Tim Crane is particularly excited by Tesco's surge up the rankings as this year's competition reaches a climax.

'Tesco was top for the last two years and look set to lose the title to Marks & Spencer, but these figures show a real late push up the rankings, indicating they are not going to give up the title lightly,' he said.

The top company wins a trip for ten to restaurant Vinopolis. For the in-house PR team at whichever firm comes bottom - a group ticket to the Tower of London.
