DIARY: Political football match with interesting results

The Tory party conference has seen the kind of plotting, spin and counterspin normally associated with New Labour, and that's only on the football pitch.

A match pitting the political press against party workers saw Liam Fox's chief-of-staff Bill Clare leave team boss Michael Howard ashen-faced as Clare was sent off during the 3-2 defeat.

Intriguingly, the Tories were sponsored by online pollster YouGov. Let's hope none of the side opened monday's Daily Telegraph, in which a YouGov poll revealed just ten per cent of voters think their party resemble a 'government in waiting'.
