'Media coverage of CSR is growing' finds Echo study

Media coverage of corporate social responsibility across Europe and the US last month rose to its highest level in two years, according to fresh findings.

A study by Echo Research has revealed year-on-year media reporting of CSR in the UK, France, Germany and the United States has jumped by 196 per cent in the last two years.

Echo's research shows that from January 2000 to September this year, media coverage of CSR grew steadily, but soared after the Enron accounting scandal, in particular around the release of details surrounding the Enron investigations.

The Johannesburg Summit in August also contributed to the meteoric rise of media interest in CSR, with coverage increasing to new heights during the conference.

Unfavourable press reporting of CSR has also decreased while neutral coverage has increased, as shown in the two-year Echo study, which is due to be released in full early next year.
