MTVNE corporate comms unit folded into marketing

MTV Networks Europe has axed its in-house communications function and folded the once standalone division into marketing.

The corporate comms team, previously with a direct reporting line to MTVNE president Brent Hansen, has been axed with staff now relocated within the pan-European marketing partnership division, with a fresh reporting line to division chief Dave Sibley.

Comms staff will continue to be headed by comms manager Polly Stevens who has taken the newly created title of director of press and comms.

Despite the title, she will have no extra senior management responsibilities but she did add that the role would have a more 'pan-European focus'.

Stevens continues to oversee the central five-strong comms team and still works alongside PR staff in individual countries in the region. The reshuffle has also meant that corporate affairs manager Alison Reid, who left the firm two months ago, will not be replaced immediately. However Stevens did say that she was reviewing the role.

PR work to be co-ordinated by Stevens over the coming months includes the annual MTV Europe Music Awards.

The event takes place in Barcelona on 14 November. Previous winners include solo artists Dido and Craig David.

Earlier this month Jackie Cooper PR was appointed to raise the profile of the network's flagship RnB and hip-hop show The Lick, which is broadcast on urban music channel MTV Base. The show is set for a relaunch next month (PRWeek, 20 September).

The reshuffle at MTVNE comes a month after MTV reorganised PR for the Latin American region naming Linda Alexander as SV-P for the region, heading all its external comms and media relations (PRWeek, 23 August).

MTV's reality show The Osbournes won best the non-fiction programme at the Emmies award ceremony this week.
