Luxury hotel chain Jumeirah holds PR pitch for corp job

Hotel group Jumeirah International is staging a pitch for its corporate PR account, currently held by Weber Shandwick.

Jumeirah hired WS in October last year (PRWeek, 12 October 2001) on a remit to promote the Dubai-based company internationally.

Jumeirah group director of PR and comms Anne Bleeker confirmed a pitch was underway but would not comment on WS's future role, saying any agency hire - likely to be within the next two weeks - could be 'in addition' to WS.

When asked about the current pitch and WS's role in it, corporate director Marcus Smith, who heads the WS account team, would only say: 'It wouldn't be the biggest surprise to me if there were changes planned'.

Luxury travel PR specialist agency PR Co is on the pitchlist but Bleeker would not reveal which other agencies were in the running for the business.

Linda Petrie, director at PR Co - which has offices in London, Paris and Munich, and is set to open up in Milan within two months - confirmed her agency had already been in discussions with Jumeirah.

Jumeirah has properties including Dubai's luxury, sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. In November last year, the group took over the management of London's Carlton Tower and Lowndes hotels, its first properties outside Dubai.
