The research by Marketing Services Financial Intelligence newsletter has analysed the financial health of the UK's 52 privately-owned marketing companies with a gross income of more than £2.5m based on publicly available reports at Companies House.
Only the Golley Slater Group met eight benchmarks of financial health set by MSFI. These include factors such as levels of borrowing, productivity, profitability and staff costs.
Of the five other PR firms analysed College Hill Associates, Band & Brown Group and Lexis all met five of the benchmarks.
Firefly Communications and Freud Communications only met three. Both had comparatively low operating profits per member of staff at the time of analysis, £8,410 and £6,123 respectively, compared to a MSFI benchmark figure of £12,000. The Freud figures however only relate to the company before its MBO from Omnicom in June 2001.
