Yahoo! UK/Ireland enters talks with consumer shops

Internet portal Yahoo! UK and Ireland this week admitted it is in talks with a number of consumer agencies, but denied being in a 'formal' pitch process.

The firm currently retains Fleishman Hillard as its principal UK agency, and F-H professed to being unaware of any plans for a PR review.

But in a statement to PRWeek, Yahoo! admitted: 'Yahoo! UKIE (UK and Ireland) is not currently in a formal re-pitch situation, however we're always appraising the ever changing and increasingly competitive consumer market place for creative talent and meet periodically with specialist consumer agencies'.

UK PR head Georga Douglas was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press.

F-H handles all corporate, crisis, trade and consumer PR for Yahoo! in the UK, having started work with the firm in 1999. The statement described the agency's work for the portal's FIFA World Cup programme as 'highly successful'.

Consumer and trade PR work for Yahoo! Europe is handled by Mantra PR.
