DIARY: Rainier's 'robot butler' recreates Ab Fab spirit

Who says there's little money in tech PR these days? Tech shop Rainier has acquired a 'robot butler' skilled in the art of mixing the 'perfect' G%26T.

The device - described by agency co-MD Stephen Waddington as a 'hi-tech bid to bring back the Absolutely Fabulous PR days of the eighties' - manipulates spirit bottles and tonic cans to create the drinks.

Sadly the robot - dubbed Brian after Tom Cruise's barman character of that name in the film Cocktail - has yet to master the sort of skill-set required in this day and age; for reasons of bottle size and shape, it can only create the one drink.

The automaton is also unlikely to spark an upsurge of alcoholism in Rainier as it takes six minutes to mix each drink (or a full hour to slake the thirst of the agency's 11 staff).

Rainier staff this week pledged to teach Brian a raft of fresh cocktail recipes and to address the speed 'issue'.

A trip to the local offie might be easier.
