Big/Beattie battle in north-eastern Scotland hots up

The Big Partnership has stepped up its battle with Beattie Media for the lion's share of PR agency work in north-east Scotland, taking clients from Beattie's Aberdeen office.

Two-year-old Big - formed by three former Beattie directors - has followed up its hiring of Beattie's Aberdeen office chief Zoe Corsi in April (PRWeek, 26 April), by claiming a number of Beattie Media's clients including Aberdeen Asset Management, Aberdeen FC and shipping firm George Craig Group.

Beattie founder Gordon Beattie, who confirmed the client moves, cited the firm's recent acquisition of Aberdeen agency Odyssey Communications (PRWeek, 28 June) as evidence of his firm's continued strength.

Beattie's clients still include Marks & Spencer, Bank of Scotland and Kwik-Fit.

Beattie Media, which has been appointed to handle PR for the 2002 Women of the Year lunch in London, has nine UK offices, five of which are in Scotland.

The firm plans to open a bureau in Manchester soon.
