Media Works buys CWG for 'top-end' six-figure amount

Full-service agency MediaWorks has acquired fellow Leeds-based firm CWG to become MediaWorks CWG.

The deal - for a 'top-end' six-figure sum, according to PR director Alison Cawthorne - sees the creation of a nine-strong PR division.

MediaWorks has around 40 staff, of whom six handle PR. CWG has 15 staff, of whom three work in PR. The combined entity, whose CEO is Tony Stanton, has annual combined turnover of around £6.5m.

MediaWorks' PR department counts Ward Building Components and fruit machines firm Barcrest among its clients. CWG handles PR for frozen food firm Dalepak and IT firm DTP Group.

MediaWorks was set up in Halifax in 1991 as a PR firm. The company expanded its offer to include services such as advertising, media planning and new media, and moved to Leeds in 1998.

CWG was set up in 1947 as ad agency Charles Walls Limited. Since then it has expanded its services to include web and e-commerce consultancy.

MediaWorks staff are relocating from their offices in Horsforth in the outskirts of Leeds to co-locate with CWG in the city centre.
