EDITORIAL: Enfield shouldn't jump the PR gun

Enfield's new Conservative administration may come to regret its plan to limit the role of PR. In opposition, councillors enjoy the political point-scoring available by rubbishing the 'spin' of the governing party.

In power they often miss the expertise of their downgraded communications staff.

PR-sceptic administrations soon change their tune when poor coverage turns to a media slaughter and staff dissatisfaction grows. It is worth recalling that the newly elected Lib Dems in Islington in the late 1990s were forced to backtrack on their own attempts to downgrade the PR function.
