PUBLIC SECTOR: Review centralises 13-strong team at Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire County Council has completed its communications restructure, creating a centralised 13-strong team.

The final three posts have now been filled, following a review of PR efforts initiated by head of communications Peter Heaton, who joined the council last year (PRWeek, 23 February 2001).

Kate Mills, former local government reporter with the Northampton Chronicle and Echo, joins as a media relations officer and Liz Fitzgerald and David Stubbs have been recruited as marketing communications officers.

When Heaton joined, the communications team was just three-strong, with his role supported by an internal and external comms manager.

Reporting to Heaton are comms co-ordinator Helen Powell and internal comms manager Olivia Ashworth.

It is estimated that by centralising communications the council has made a £5,000 reduction in salary costs.
