Synergy takes Under Armour brief

Engine agency Synergy has been appointed as the retained UK PR firm for sports apparel brand Under Armour. Work started last month on the brief, which Synergy has taken over from PrettyGreen. Synergy had previously worked with Under Armour, which sponsor Anthony Joshua, Andy Murray and other teams and athletes, on a project basis.

Leech is 2018 CIPR president

Emma Leech will be the CIPR president for 2018, having been the only eligible candidate to stand for the post. She is director of marketing and advancement at Loughborough University, having previously held similar roles at the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Nottingham. CIPR presidents are always elected more than a year ahead of taking up post in order to give them a period on the board as president-elect. The current president is Jason MacKenzie, and next year's president will be Sarah Hall.

MBO at BDB

B2b marketing business BDB has been through a management buyout. MD Matt Smith has acquired the firm outright from two of its co-founders Suzanne Dixon (originally Bell) and Henry Dixon. The firm was set up in 1987 by Bell, Dixon and a third business partner who left the business in 1990. Around half of BDB's business is PR work, the agency said. It has 33 staff and clients include Elsevier, Tata Steel and Johnson Controls.

Modus and BPCM merge

London fashion, beauty and lifestyle agency Modus is merging its business with the London office of transatlantic luxury agency BPCM, which also has New York and LA offices. The newly created ModusBPCM will be lead by Modus' Julian Vogel and BPCM's Catherine Bowman as CEO and MD respectively. Diana Hall, who founded Modus 30 years ago, is stepping away from the business.

Plunkett launches Twist

Chrissie Plunkett, formerly of Karol Marketing, has co-founded Twist Marketing, a new PR agency in Newcastle. She is launching it alongside entrepreneur Rich Shell, a former banker who has since branched into the events business, and will himself be the first client of Twist.

Corbett mentors with British Library

Simon Corbett, CEO of Jargon PR, has been appointed as an 'Innovating for Growth' mentor by the British Library, which provides support to growth-ready businesses identified by the library's business centre.
