40 Under 40 2017: Jacob Moon

Cofounder and partner, Method Communications, 37

A successful entrepreneur who cofounded one of the fastest-growing PR agencies in the country when he was just 29, Jacob Moon began his career at newspapers and magazines.

Under his leadership, Method Communications quickly became the largest and most-trusted PR agency in Utah, representing the state’s top billion-dollar startups: Pluralsight, Domo, and Qualtrics. The agency also has accounts in industries ranging from venture capital to edtech.

The firm’s client portfolio includes the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Sorenson Forensics, and one of the West’s largest private equity groups, Sorenson Capital.

By using key relationships, Moon and team expanded beyond Salt Lake City and took Silicon Valley by storm, opening an office in 2014. In only three years, the agency has expanded its team in that office to 30, and it has landed marquee clients such as Kodak, Samsung, New Relic, Adyen, and Bessemer Venture Partners.

Method’s growth has been built largely on referrals from clients and VC firms, which speaks to Moon’s efforts to build a different kind of agency that puts meaningful results and true agency-client partnerships ahead of everything else. He prioritizes strategic hiring and long-term initiatives, while focusing on continuously delivering impeccable work for breakthrough brands and category leaders.

In the last several months, Method helped orchestrate two of the largest tech IPOs of 2016 for Nutanix and Trivago. It also helped Bolt Threads successfully launch the first synthetic spider silk tie at SXSW 2017.

Moon has been instrumental in the agency’s explosive growth and sterling reputation, which increased exponentially from 2010 to 2016, reaching $10.1 million in annual revenue. In Utah and Silicon Valley, Method has become the AOR for many of the world’s most innovative companies — and Moon is a major reason why.

  • Moon has received numerous industry distinctions for Method, including the agency being recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in Utah for five straight years.
  • His knack for team-building and PR has even led innovative companies in Los Angeles and New York to bypass PR firms in their own neighborhood and look to Method to enlist the agency’s services.
  • Moon became the managing editor of Utah’s largest magazine, Utah Business, at 25.
