40 Under 40 2017: Beth Cleveland

Managing partner, Praytell, 35

Praytell, a four-year-old agency, has been named one of PRWeek’s Best Places To Work for three years running. Colleagues cite Beth Cleveland as the main reason the firm has never lost an employee to another agency.

As the head of Praytell’s integrated PR business, Cleveland is a crucial driver of the agency’s business that saw revenue grow 77% in 2016 and is on a similar path for 2017. She’s known as "a new business monster," who helps bag wins such as Macy’s and Zappos while remaining an active day-to-day account lead.

Praytell has a near 100% employee retention rate, due in large part to Cleveland’s influence. She personally manages the development of two dozen employees, offering thoughtful guidance that encourages learning and growth. Her junior team members say she’s the person they know will help guide them over insurmountable challenges to help them reach their goals. The entire Praytell team cherishes her unshakable support, positive attitude, and commitment to her teammates.

In an agency that is committed to giving employees the resources and time to pursue their passions and lead a balanced life, Cleveland is a daily example of someone who can be a senior leader of a fast-growing agency and have a fulfilling family life, while still remaining a contributing member of her community.

  • Cleveland leads the agency’s PR practice heading up key accounts, and she has led the agency to numerous awards, including PRWeek’s Small Agency of the Year (’17), Boutique Agency of the Year (’15) as well as a Best Place to Work.
  • She serves as a member of the National Charity League and volunteers for Loaves & Fishes and Environmental Traveling Companions in San Francisco. She has fundraised for Children’s Miracle Network and the Geisinger Medical Center among others.
  • Before merging with Praytell, Cleveland headed up her own boutique PR firm, Elm PR, for more than five years where she landed top accounts, such as OfficeMax and Threadless.
