What builds and sustains a stellar corporate reputation such as the one Johnson & Johnson has enjoyed for so many years?
According to Michael, J&J’s unfailing guidance system for reputation is the company’s credo, which defines its responsibilities to all stakeholders, from patients and consumers, to doctors and nurses, mothers and fathers, suppliers, investors, local communities, and the world.
For almost 75 years, that simple 342-word document has shaped decisions at the company. "Frankly, we believe that if we take care of those responsibilities, everything else will take care of itself," Michael says.
To Michael, keeping those promises is the foundation of J&J’s reputation. His own responsibilities as a member of the management committee, which includes overseeing reputation and risk for the world’s largest and most broadly based healthcare company, and his deep experience across the company’s three main businesses have allowed his leadership, mentorship, and influence to be felt in much of what J&J has said and done for more than 30 years.
From the results of his work, you can easily see why the company hopes he’ll be doing this for a long time to come.
