"To be frank." That phrase means "to speak freely, sincerely, and forthrightly." Which is no surprise considering those traits define Frank Shaw as a person as well as one of the most skilled communicators in our field.
As the leader of comms for one of the most storied companies in the world, Frank works with a sense of purpose, always pushing not only to explain the "what" in the stories Microsoft tells, but also the "why" it’s important and Microsoft’s purpose in developing it.
He blazes new trails by injecting science into our craft, using data to inform smarter strategies and exploring new ways of connecting with people and audiences, from his early forays blogging to his current perch as Twitter aficionado.
He’s a runner (he sprints at work, too), a sourdough bread baker (sometimes used as a calling-card with journalists), and a former U.S. Marine (he’s not afraid of tough jobs). All of these experiences inform the wisdom and judgment he brings to our profession and to Microsoft.
Throughout it all, he’s always been "Frank," speaking freely, with authenticity and honesty, earning him the trust and respect of his colleagues, competitors, and journalists alike.
