Smarts hired for Hertz content

PR agency Smarts Communicate and sister firm Stack have been appointed as the joint pan-European content agencies for car hire firm Hertz, following a six-way pitch. The two agencies will lead the brand’s global content strategy, developing creative campaigns and content creation across all owned, earned and paid channels. Stack specialises in customer acquisition and engagement. Both it and Top 150-listed Smarts are owned by MSQ Partners.

Dogs Trust gets new comms chief

Animal welfare charity Dogs Trust has appointed Emma Sheppard as communications director. Sheppard, who was previously head of brand and comms at St John Ambulance, will lead a team of 18. She is tasked with highlighting the charity's expertise in dog training, promoting the rehoming of dogs and responsible dog ownership and handling internal communications.

Clementine wins Greek spirit brand

Greek spirit brand Metaxa has appointed PR firm Clementine Communications to increase awareness of the brand in the UK, following the agency’s work on the relaunch of Metaxa 12 Stars brandy last year. The new brief includes handling trade and consumer media relations for Metaxa, as well as organising interviews with the company’s senior spokespeople.

Clarity hired by Firefly

Clarity has been appointed as the UK comms agency for Firefly, a US company producing premium portable vaporisers. The vape maker was co-founded in December 2013 by a former Apple design manager and is one of several such devices to have been labelled the "iPhone of vaporisers" by the media.

Jukebox co-founds content agency

The agency Jukebox PR and online music magazine Data Transmission have come together to create Hairy Robot, which will produce written, audio and video content to connect brands to youth audiences. There will initially be four staff working on the new joint venture. Jukebox has 15 staff and Data Transmission 10.

Anderson launches Alpha

Former journalist and latterly in-house PR professional Stuart Anderson has set up Alpha Public Relations. Manchester-based Alpha will specialise in mid-market professional and financial services firms. Anderson spent the last five years as head of marketing and comms at Cheshire's Clarion Wealth Planning and its sister firm Clarion Investment Management. Before that he edited financial and business titles Pensions Age, CIR Magazine and EN.
