The Coventry-based agency takes over from One Chocolate, which had also pitched to retain business, PRWeek understands.
Cogent will start working with Playmobil in April, and has initially been tasked with supporting a global launch of a new Ghostbusters toy range.
The range will include the Ghostbusters firehouse, the ECTO-1 car, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, Slimer, and many of the characters from the original movie franchise.
As part of the brief, Cogent will also help promote existing ranges of Playmobil products and play-sets, as well as handle PR for the company's Lechuza gardening brand.
"Cogent and the Playmobil UK team are currently working on more detailed plans to promote Lechuza," the spokesperson said.
Cogent's current roster of clients includes public transport firm Arriva, German car manufacturer BMW, and confectioner Thorntons.
