In her new position, Clare Collard, formerly local and regional government liaison manager at Thames Water, will support its corporate reputation and commercial activity across all portfolios, The Crown estate said. Collard was previously head of office for Justine Greening MP and a member of the Prime Minister’s and Cabinet Minister’s event team during the General Election.

Her arrival follows changes to the wider corporate affairs team earlier this year, including the appointments of Andy Payne as head of corporate affairs and Fiona Mannion as head of media.

The Crown Estate said Portland’s appointment follows a competitive three-phase process to work across its assets in 160 Parliamentary constituencies outside London.

This includes 15 retail and leisure parks, three shopping centres and two leisure assets, as well as more than 60 rural land sites.

Payne said: "We’re delighted to have Clare and Portland on-board. Their wealth of experience and expertise in delivering thoughtful and effective communications will support our commercial activities and ensure we’re positioned as a modern, progressive business that delivers value beyond financial return."

The Crown Estate’s corporate affairs team also works with Teneo Blue Rubicon, Four Communications and Regester Larkin on separate briefs.

The Crown Estate manages a total portfolio worth £12bn, with profits going to The Treasury.

Its portfolio includes all of Regent Street and much of St James’s in central London, along with a number of retail and leisure assets and rural land.
