Hanover's new creative agency The Playbook hires Pitch's Meakin as first head of sport

Hanover's new creative agency The Playbook, which launched in July, has announced its first senior hire with Nick Meakin joining as head of sport.

Formerly new business director at sports marketing agency Pitch, Meakin (pictured) will oversee the agency’s roster of sports clients, spanning NFL UK and the ECB, as well as playing a lead role in business development.

He has more than ten years of media and comms experience, across the Football Association, H+K Strategies and Lexis, working on campaigns for sponsors including Coca-Cola and Barclays.

Eddie May, MD of The Playbook, said: "Nick has huge experience in the industry working on some high-profile and highly effective sport and sponsorship campaigns. His combination of client-side and agency experience will be invaluable and I’m looking forward to him getting stuck in."

May, who co-founded Threepipe, joined Hanover in June to lead The Playbook, which focuses on sport, active health, wellbeing and technology brands. Hanover Group’s existing sports clients transferred to The Playbook.

Its launch marked the start of the agency's transition into "a full-service communications group", according to group CEO Charles Lewington.
