Edelman ups Michael Stewart to global vice chair

He will continue to serve as CEO for Europe and the CIS until a replacement is found.

LONDON: Michael Stewart, Edelman’s president and CEO for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, is taking on the role of global vice chairman.

Based in London, Stewart will report to global COO Matt Harrington. He will continue to serve on the firm’s executive committee, an Edelman representative said via email.

Stewart will work to advance key strategic needs for the firm, including overseeing Edelman Intelligence and its C-suite advisory capabilities. He will also continue to provide strategic counsel to clients.

Stewart will continue to serve as Europe CEO until a new regional lead is in place. Edelman is conducting an internal and external search for his successor, and recruitment firm Spencer Stuart is overseeing the process, the spokesperson said.

Stewart joined Edelman in 2013 from McKinsey & Company, where he worked for more than 12 years, first as director of comms for the Americas and Asia, and later as global director of comms.

Edelman’s European and CIS operations achieved like-for-like revenue growth of 12.7% on a constant currency basis in 2015.

Since Stewart joined the firm, it acquired Swedish creative agency Deportivo in 2014, French agency Elan that same year, and German shop Ergo in December 2015.

Edelman said in April that it was closing its office in Poland but will maintain a presence there through affiliate Lighthouse Consultants.
