HOBOKEN, NJ: Consumer goods company Newell Brands has appointed Tom Sanford as VP of communications.
Sanford reports to Fiona Laird, chief human resources and communications officer. Laird, who previously worked in HR and comms at Unilever, joined Newell in May.
Sanford will be responsible for all communications worldwide, including both internal and external communications and employee, community, and media relations. He will be based in the company’s global headquarters in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Sanford was not immediately available for comment.
He joins Newell from Aetna, where he was VP of enterprise communications. His role there was taken over by Deloitte's Kathryn Metcalfe in June. Sanford has worked in communications for several corporations, including Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and AlliedSignal. He began his career with Burson-Marsteller and Adams & Rinehart.
Newell Brands was created and renamed in April of this year following Newell Rubbermaid's acquisition of Jarden Corporation. The combined companies have a revenue of about $16 billion a year from consumer goods sales. The company’s portfolio of brands includes Paper Mate, Sharpie, Mr. Coffee, and Yankee Candle.
