Diverse, specialist skills represent future of the comms industry

The qualities of the individuals recognized also tell a revealing story about the skills required to prosper in today's competitive and fast-changing communications industry environment.

This year’s list of PRWeek 40 Under 40 honorees is incredibly impressive and diverse, and it bodes well for the future of the industry.

The qualities of the individuals recognized also tell a revealing story about the skills required to prosper in today’s competitive and fast-changing communications industry environment.

They display assets that are always going to be important for people overseeing corporate reputation and managing crisis situations, as well as specialist experience honed in the tough worlds of politics and public affairs, healthcare, and integrated and digital comms.

We honor the likes Alison Borgmeyer, with her master’s degree in nutrition and registered dietitian qualification; Arun Divakaruni, with his Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry; Obele Brown-West’s tenure at digital hot shop 360i and respected ad agency Mcgarrybowen; others with significant ad experience including Jessica Clifton and Whaewon Choi-Wiles; politicos Bill Burton, Lauren Day, Joe Hathaway, Alex Slater, Steven Soper, and Ray Wert; and a solid grounding in digital, social, content, and influencer marketing across the board.

The experiences of our 40 PR pros hold up a mirror to an industry that is evolving fast in the areas of integration and social, digital, and content, while at the same time maintaining the traditional skills of senior counsel and trusted advice to the C-suite.

We look forward to honoring the 40 at a celebratory dinner in New York City on the evening of October 13, following the PRWeek Conference during the day, which will pick up on many of the skills and themes demonstrated by our 2016 group.
